Smokefree Spaces Are at Risk! Right now, our public health victories are under attack in ways we haven’t seen in decades. Big Tobacco sees this as a major opportunity and their chance to turn back the clock on smokefree air. The tobacco and cigar industries are pushing for smoking lounges in airports again. Casino workers—some of the last Americans forced to breathe secondhand smoke at work—are being told they’ll never get relief. In Montana, cigar companies nearly overturned 20 years of smokefree restaurant protections, and we know they will try again next session. The tobacco industry is betting that without government support or funding, the smokefree movement will fade away. They’re counting on organizations like us to give up.
