In honor of ANR's 50th we're telling stories to illustrate the work that has led us to nearly 63% of people in the U.S. protected from secondhand smoke.

In our next collection of stories we explore how the Reclaim Sacred Tobacco Coalition (RST) is working to undo the harms of commercial tobacco by advancing smokefree policies in Tribal lands and casinos while centering Native sovereignty.

Janna Vallo of the Pueblo of Acoma has helped support Tribal communities across the Southwest as they develop culturally responsive strategies to address commercial tobacco harms while protecting traditional tobacco teachings.

Colin Welker has spent more than 15 years working alongside Tribal communities to advance commercial tobacco policy and public health protections. 

CoCo Villaluz has worked alongside ANR to help ensure national strategies remain rooted in community knowledge, traditional teachings, and respect for tobacco as medicine.
